Highwinds Expands Its Management Team with Two Industry Veterans Michael Brownstein, Vice President of Network Services, and David Barmann, Director of Network Engineering, Offer Valuable Experience in Engineering High-Performance Networks WINTER PARK, Fla. - June 14, 2007 - Highwinds Network Group, Inc., a global provider of content distribution solutions, today announced that it has welcomed two key executives to its growing team. Michael Brownstein and David Barmann, recognized leaders in the engineering and management of fast-growing data networks, joined Highwinds as a result of the company's recent acquisition of TowerGrove Technology Partners. Brownstein serves as Highwinds' vice president of network services and is responsible for overseeing the company's peering and transit planning, and overall network deployment and administration. Barmann, one of the nation's most forward-thinking technologists, has been brought on board as Highwinds' director of network engineering; he holds a patent related to Internet routing and ensuring quality of service. Brownstein and Barmann both played instrumental roles in the development of SAVVIS' hosting, network and application technologies, and together, they bring to Highwinds nearly four decades of experience developing and managing high-performance global networks. Brownstein has maintained a consistent track record of nurturing and leading technology companies to success throughout his accomplished career. In his four-year role as managing partner of TowerGrove, he was ultimately responsible for ensuring the success of all projects. He also previously served as the vice president of strategic network planning for SAVVIS, where he was responsible for developing and leveraging new strategic relationships, and negotiating Internet peering agreements and carrier master service agreements worldwide. Brownstein joined SAVVIS as a result of the company's acquisition of IXA, one of the Pacific Northwest's leading regional Internet backbone providers where he served as president and co-founder. Brownstein holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of Washington and a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College. A skilled technical operations planner and engineer of high-performance networks, Barmann brings to the Highwinds team over 20 years of industry experience. In his previous role as CTO of TowerGrove, he was responsible for overseeing the company's technical services operations. As chief scientist of CoreExpress, he designed a nationwide optical backbone, led the testing of new equipment and integrated new cutting-edge technology. Barmann also held a senior scientist post at SAVVIS, where he was responsible for the engineering of a nationwide ATM and frame-relay network. And as a senior engineer at WilTel/WorldCom, he played a pivotal role in engineering the first public frame-relay network. Barmann holds a patent on a system of Internet routing that ensures quality of service protocols are met between two points on a network.
